What’s Next?

after a full moon is a blue moon
and after that, the world forgets what it was to be human
the loss is disappointing
the humor dead
lives continue to profit while those who can’t take the change,
allow their bodies to destroy the emblem of hope, reluctant to spirit us away
what will become of the children after all the care is gone?
will they remember or search for the past state where shaking hands sealed a friendship better than a wave?
and what of the blue moon in all its color and guise?
will the world look up for one moment and rejoice that life still means something other than a corpse ready to be buried one day?

where are you
where do you hide
as the waning moon
christens the water below

here i stand
waiting
longing
for a past to come
to life

the rocks fill
with the salt
of a sea unlocked
and you continue to weigh
inside the darkest woods
making it a bosom
you’d half-expect
to wake from

where are you
tonight
the stars cry
a blue silhouette
of your face

in medias res

the tale is long
and you’ve come in halfway
don’t want to sound rude
but time isn’t going to stand still for me
let me have the car and I’ll let you keep your life

and the bodies behind you
did they have a choice
or were they part of that story left unsaid
am i the only one you spoke to
or do I remind you of someone

the gun is set
time is up
don’t force my fingers
the story is long
leave it at that

if you did not kill out of spite
then you killed out of necessity
survival is a crutch
and I must bear mine as well
i give you safe passage
just know you take my soul with you

no!
i don’t want that kind of life

here are the keys
do as you’d like
my life is mine and the car is yours
along with it
you take what worth I was

gun slips from hand
strayed bullet grazes leg
sirens wail the last rites
tears fill a well of untold story
